Finding Gratitude

ENCOURAGEMENT – FINDING GRATITUDE

Being quarantined makes us feel isolated. Whether you are an introvert or an extrovert living and dealing with this storm for the last nine weeks is enough to make us all a little stir crazy. Dealing with the unknown as the world tilts and shifts. Now that some restrictions are easing we wonder how to safely step out and return to a world that is changed. To be totally honest seeing people in masks scares me. Only a high need for frozen pizza keeps me shopping seeing gloves and masks makes me anxious. No matter what cute fabric they use.

What’s true is you are not alone. While we are not in control of the situation you are in control of how you feel about it and the choices and next steps you take. Dr. Deloney (newest Ramsey Personality) says to “face fear with facts and control the controlables”

Wanna hear something a wee-bit controversial? Something that keeps
coming up in the news and on social media is the worldwide fear afflicting us due to COVID-19.

Blue Angels Flying over North Texas – Dallas Sky Line

What I don’t hear much about, however, is gratitude for our emergency professionals working day and night to keep us safe. During this time gratitude is the best attitude, friends!

“America Strong is a way for both teams to show appreciation to the thousands of doctors, nurses, first responders and essential workers out there serving on the front line day-in and day-out,” said a statement from Cmdr. Brian Kesselring, U.S. Navy Blue Angels commanding officer and flight leader for the flyover last weekend in Washington.

Things we can do

Sometimes it’s all we can do to maintain a positive mindset. On May 13 the Blue Angels flew over North Texas. As a way to honor and respect the efforts of the first responders. It was so uplifting. While I don’t have the ability to do such a big flashy thank you, I did tie white ribbon to the trees in our yard and put a white wreath up so say thank you.

Several of my clients are nurses and I wanted to find a way to give them a shout out and say thank you. Thank you! That in this time of high stress, long hours, and personal risk we appreciate knowing they are there. I am so glad that those exposed have recovered and are even now back at work. Not for glory but because she knows that the patients in ICU need her.

Focus on good powerful ways you can add light during this time it doesn’t have to be a flyover simple works as well:

1. Send a thank you note to someone you appreciate.

2. Send a text to some one who might need your help or assistance, check in with your family and friends.

3. Send a text to a friend, family member, trusted peer when you are feeling down and need some encouragement.

Big or small, what are you grateful for today despite your fear?
